We here at Core Chaud are big fans of warmth. After all, warm toes are equal to a warm body, right?

Wool undoubtedly provides warmth, but there are other properties unique to wool that make it superior to cotton in many aspects.

Warmth was one of the most important factors when we were initially designing our grip socks. However we also wanted to create a sock that was high performance. We tested various combinations of wool blends... Many of them being too scratchy, fuzzy, or prone to excessive pilling. We eventually were able to create a wool blend grip sock that is high performing and warms your toes and your soul, Core Chaud.

Some of the benefits (other than warmth) of wool are:

1. Temperature Regulating

  • Wool has properties that help regulate body temperature. It keeps you warm in cold weather by trapping air between the fibers, providing insulation.

2. Moisture Resistant

  • Wool is breathable and wicks away moisture from the body. While wool absorbs a small amount of liquid into the core of its fibers, it wicks moisture out through small openings in the fabric. Conversely, cotton becomes completely saturated when wet and stays wet, feeling heavy against the skin and making you uncomfortably cold or hot. This can lead to discomfort in the feet and the body, while the lasting wetness can cause irritation to the skin.
3. Odor Resistant
  • Wool’s chemical structure enables it to absorb and lock away odors within the fibers, where the bacteria that cause odor cannot live. These odors are released from the fabric when washing or aired out, making the fabric fresh the next day. In particular, merino wool socks are preferred for both lack of odor after wearing and also for lack of odor after washing. Cotton, due to its tendency to stay wet, may be more prone to developing unpleasant odors over time.

4. Durable & Long Lasting

  • Wool fibers are known for their durability and resilience. They can withstand repeated wear and washing without losing their shape or effectiveness. In fact, wool can bend up to 20,000 times before breaking. Cotton, while soft, may be less durable over time and can show signs of wear and tear with extended use.

5. Comfortable and Cushioning

  • Wool provides excellent cushioning and comfort. The natural elasticity of wool fibers ensures a snug fit without restricting movement, making the fabric comfortable for various activities. The cushioning effect of wool is especially beneficial for those who spend long hours on their feet or partake in physical activities.

6. All-Season Wear

  • Wool is suitable for all seasons due to its temperature-regulating properties. Wearing fabrics made from wool will keep you warm in winter and cool in summer, making for a smart fabric choice, year-round.

7. Hypoallergenic Properties:

  • Wool is often a preferred choice for individuals with sensitive skin or allergies. It produces fewer dust particles and does not grow mold, making it less likely to cause skin irritation.

There are so many reasons that we chose to create our grip socks from a merino wool blend. Core Chaud socks are a great choice for anyone looking for a comfortable fabric to wear during activity or even while lounging around the house. We are proud to bring you our most comfortable merino wool grip socks to keep you feeling good year round.
